I can see different ways of spending free time.

In the first picture there is a camp site, people in the picture like fishing and sleeping in a tent. Or maybe they are backpackers on a trip.

In the second picture I can see a woman swimming in the pool. Many people like swimming in summer, or go swimming in winter to indoor pools. Spending free time doing sports is a typical leisure time activity.

In the last picture I can see a girl in a pub. Young people like spending free time partying and having fun in bars and pubs.

2. Compare your daily programme on workdays with one at weekends.

On workdays I usually get up at 6 o´clock. I have breakfast, wash myself, get dressed and go to school. I usually go by bus or by car because I´m a commuter. I´m at school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then I go home. I study, help my mother and watch TV in the evening. Than I take a shower and I go to bed at about 11 o´clock.

On the other hand my daily proramme at weekends is different. I sleep long hours so I miss my breakfast and I usually have brunch. On Saturdays I do housework such as hoovering, cleaning floors, dishwashing, dusting, cooking and baking. The evenings I spend out with my friends at parties or discos.

Describe your leisure time activities at weekends. When and who do you practise them with?

I spend weekends partly with my family and partly with my friends. I help my mum with housework and cooking. When the weather is nice I go hiking with my friends. I like going to the gym because I like doing excercises. I spend evenings with my friends. We go to pubs, discos or parties. Sometimes we go to the cinema or concerts to the Piano Club.

Talk about the differences in how young people and adults spend their leisure time.

At present more and more young people like doing sports. The favourite sports of young people are: cycling, roller skating, body building, floorball, martial arts, gym activities such as jumping, yoga, pilates and so on.

Many young people like dancing so they go to the clubs. Also concerts and music fesivals are very popular. Many teens have a pet such as: cat, dog, fish, guinea pig, parrot, hamster, snake and so on.

Teens spend a lot of time on the Internet. They chat on FB, download films and music, look for information.

On the other hand adults spend free time gardening or doing DIY (Do It Yourself) activities like repairing cars, redecorating the house, design the furniture, paint the flat and so on. Many adults like learning foreign languages so they go to language schools.

What influences the way people spend their free time.

There are many factors that influence how we spend our free time. First of all it´s money. Everything is expensive nowadays. Not everybody has enough money to go to the gym several times a week or travel all over the world for fun. Then a talent. People who are gifted have creative hobbies such as: acting, singing, folk dancing, painting, photography and so on.

Name some objects which people like collecting.

One of the traditional hobbies is collecting objects – stamps, picture postcards, badges, flags, coins, model cars or ships, napkins, dolls, Teddybears. Collecting can become a lifelong hobby for many people.

3 Simulation/Roleplay

It´s your best friend´s birthday and you have decided to organize a party for him/her. Talk with your friends about your idea and ask them to help you with its preparations. (Setting the table, preparing menu, decorating the room, bringing the music, etc.)

I´d like to prepare the party in our favourite pub. I´ll decorate the room with balloons and flowers, I´ll prepare nice glasses and good alcoholic and soft drinks. The surprise will be my friend´s favourite DJ who will make a great dance party. I´ll invite all our friends.
